To date, the Town has îssued more than $86 million worth of building pe~Mits, closing rapidly on last year's record of $115 million. "We'll probably top that mark by the end of September, " says Mayor Bob Attersley. A look at the report, issued mon- thly by the Town's public works department, shows mostly residen- tial permits were issued, more than $8.5 million worth in July. The $8.5 million was for 98 single family dwelling units, a total almost double that of the same timne last year, 52.. 'II have always believed when you get residential, that commer- cial and industrial will catch Up and we are starting to show signs of that," says Attersley. The report indicates the Town issued a $2-million institutional permit and $1.27-million worth of industrial permits in July. The institutional permit is for constrtvction of the new Bellwood public school. The school is expec- ted to be completed by either Mar- ch or April of 1988. A $50,000permit was issued for an extension. to the Dupont plant and a $500,000 permit was taken out for various commercial businesses on Thickson Rd. N. "We already have $2 million in commercial and industrial permits for August," says the mayor. "The key word here is diver- sification. There is no General Motors around here. " He adds that more than 60 per cent of Oshawa's permîts last year were taken out by General Motors. 'I think that diversification is very healthy for the Town," says, Attersley. The Town issued a total of $13 million in permits during July, to bring the 1987 total to $86.3 million. The Town collécted $85,372 in permit fees during July.
