Roadblock haits chase Durham Regional Police used a tractor-traller as a roadblock on Hwy. 401 east of Brock St. S., Whit- by Thursday in an attempt to stop a 1986 Mazda they had been chasing from Bowmanville. The incident led to charges of at- tempted murder and armed rob- bery against a 26-year-old Quebec man. The chase began after a man wielding a shotgun approached a woman at a gas station on Waverly Rd. in Bowmanvllle. The man fired his gun into the ground, pointed the gun at the Woman fhen dragged the wonan from a 1986 Mazda. Shots were fired by both police and the man as the chase continued along the 401 during rush hour traf- fie. The 20-minute chase ended when the car rammed into a tractor- traiter police nlad piaced across the 401 just east of Brock St. S. A police cruiser then skidded into the back of the Mazda. Charged with 'attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon and four counts of pointing a firearm is Marcel Gauthier, of Rosemere, Quebec. Damage to the tractor-trailer was limited to $50. Damage to the. Mazda and police cruiser totalled $5,000.
