Mrs. Smyth is survived by daughters Sandy Taylor of Whitby and Anne Stinson of 'Oshawa, son Anthony Smyth of Oshawa, grandchildren James, Andy and Angie Taylor of Whitby and Sandy and Cathy Smyth of Toronto, and sister Irene Buckely of London. She was born on November 11, 1915, in Pickering Township, daughter of Charles Ledgett and Bell Hutchinson Lawton. She grew up in Kinsale in Pickering Township and lived in Whitby for 35 years. She was a kitchen maintenance employee at She was a volunteer member of Meals on Wheels, the Cancer Society, the Heart Fund and hospital auiliary and was an eider of St. Mark's United Cburch. She is survived by nieces anc nephews Joyce (Mrs. Neil Marsball) of Whitby, Lorne Disney of Woodville, Gladys (Mrs. Fred Fiss) of Dobbington, Sheila (Mrs. Ray McGuckin) of Uxbridge, Ivan Disney of Lindsay, brother-in-Iaw Cecil Disney of Lindsay and several great nieces and nephews. Interment at Salem cemetery, Pickering. THuE RENT REVIEW GUIDELINE FOR 1988 IS 4,7 PER CENT The rent review guideline for next year has been calculated at 4.7 per cent. This is the amount by which a landiord can mncrease the maximum rent for a unit during 1988 without approval from the Ministry of Housing. The rent for a unit can be increased only once in a 12-month period. The 4.7 per cent guideline applies to ail private rentai units in the province for rent increases that take effect from January 1, 1988 to December 31,1988. The 1987 guideline of 5.2 per cent continues to apply to rent increases which take effect on or before December 31, 1987. It is illegal for a landiord to increase the maximum rent above the guideline without applying to the Ministry of Housing for rent review to justify the increase. In cases where a landiord does apply for an increase above the guideline, tenants can examine the application and make their own submissions before a decision is reached.
