It may be a lonely week for Olympians returning borne again after an exciting 16 days of glory, but it has been a great week for Quest students. Last week and today conclude our skiing sessions. We bad tbree bours packed full of free skiing -no lessons. Not tbat we are good enough to go without lessons yet; but we deserve a break, right? I mnust say that the-whole skiing season was marvelous and we are alI looking forward toupcorning physed programs. There is quite a lot of action in our bouse league right now. Two weeks ago we had a variety of events. Each contest was run by the captain and sub-captain of one of tbe bouses. Tbe Pboenixes were in charge of the bean bag toss, Centaurs in charge of Balderdash, Griffins in charge of the spelling bee and the pictogram was run by tbe Dragons. This past Friday we had dress-up, s0 to speak. Eacb student was to dress as his/her favorite actress or actor. One class is trying to raise rnoney for an end-of-year class trip. They recently opened the "7 in heaven tuck shop. " The shop selîs everytbing edible from gummy bears to pop and chips and as their slogan reads, they sel! smiles as well, all at low prices. Though there was a Quest tuck sbop last year, it bas neyer been more successful. Everyday, from 12:20 to 1 p.rn. there are line-ups extending out the door. It is equally busy from 3:3toalmost4p.rn. -The school bas been fundraising by participating in Magazine Mania, as well. Students have been selling a variety of magazine subscriptions to raise money for school equiprnent. It, too, was very successful. AIl these events are a good way to finish before the March break. I arn sure everyone willhave a terrific two weeks and we will ail be fresh after our holiday -ail ready for more exciting happenings. Lunch Bag Theatre opened last week with their rendition of Bland Hysteria (and, again it had notbing to do witb the life of Mr. Bland!!!) Anyways, it was very well put together; the actors were ex- cellent and the play provided its audience with a funny and honest outlook on life. The play was also entered in the Sears Drarna Festival last weekend. Carnie Rands and Dwigbt Hickey won two of the four awards presented at the festival for outstanding performances! Congratulations. The finalists for the airbands have been announc ed, now ail we bave to do is wait for the airband dance, which is always a success, corning up May 25. The finalists were: Motley Crue, Sweet Dion and the Belmonts, The Cuilt, Sid Vicious, The Supremes, Stars on 45, George Michael, L.L. Cool G and that oh so cute pair 0f Ken and Dolly. Other neWà in the school last weelc: our'senior baslcetbai tearn defeated Anderson 46-40 in a quarter-final playoff game.and our rnidget Hawks advanced to the LOSSA finals witb a 73-49 victory over Ajax. Harwood co-op education praised Denis O'Connor High Sehool would like to acknowledge once again a student who embodies dedication and success. Paul Pesehisolido, a Grade il student, was recently selected to represent Canada as a mem- ber of the under-19 soccer team. This is only one of his accomplishments. Tbis past summer, Paul was a starter for Team Canada in the under-16 FIFA WorId Cup held here in Canada. We were ail very proud of him then and we are now certainly equaily as proud and appreciative of hirn and bis talent. We wish hlm well in bis endeavors and hope that ail bis bard work will pay off. It sure looks as if it is paying off ! Good luek Paul, from all of us atDO'C. Success bas been tbe key word at DO'C lately. Not only bas one of our students accomplished a great feat, but our basketbail teams have done so as well. Cornpared to tbe strengtb and height of otber sebools, we are eonsidered rather weak. But this year DO'C bas proven that beigbt mat- ters littie. Our junior and midget boys basketball teams advanced into LUMA playoffs witb very good records. Both coaches are proud of their tearns and the development of eacb boys' skills. Good luck boys! In other sports action, our senior girls soccer team bas started early this year in preparation for the tougb season abead. The girls are looking to regain tbeir two titles and this early start will belp tremendously. The girls will be participating in the Pope John Paul II indoor soccer tour- nament. DO'C will be cornpeting against strong Scarborough and Toron- teams. Tbis type of exposure will toughen up our girls and bopefully DO'C will come away with yet another medal.
