Whitby on Saturday wi«th a parade, of players and coaches down Brock St. to Peel Park. This . year 74 teains, with players 5 to 15, make up the minor league and ail will be taking part in the parade to be led by Durhamn Regional Police and Mayor Bob Attersley and council members, Ontario riding MP Scott Fenneli and Durham Centre MPP Allan Furlong. And providing the spring sounds to help usher in the new Whitby basebail season wilI be the Whitby Brass Band and the Anderson CVI Marching Band. "That will be the nucleus of our teazn," says Imeson, adding another five players will probably be added during winter practices. Thfe, teain will have to raise $30,000 for the trip and are planning raffles, dances, and selling juices and t-shirts.' If ail those groups sanction the tour, the teain can apply for provincial and federal grants, says Imeson. Imeson says the level of amateur basebail players in California is regarded as some of the best and "If any of the boys do well they could catch the eye of a scout." Having lost 5-4 to Dennis O'Connor. last Monday, the Hawks, with outstanding pitching by Jeif hardy and Jeremy Harness, combîned with clutch hitting, were able ta, defeat the Trojans. "Our hitting has been suspect ail year. We've had good pitching ail season but aur hitting has not been impressive. We got the hitting when we needed it most, said Ken Semanski, Henry manager. The right-handed Hardy pitched four innings against the Trojans allowing only two bits while striking out. five. Ini relief Harness allowed one. hit and struck out five.' Darcy head provided the bulk of the offense for the Hawks, belting a two-run- single and scoring a run ta give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
