WIITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 1988, PAGE 21 Local courses help Easter Seals May 21 marks the beginning of the 13th annual AI Balding Golf Week for Timmy. Golfers will help raise money for 7,200 Easter Seal physically disabled children, including 245 in Durham Region. Golf Week continues until May 29. The winners, from courses selling 25 tickets or more, will come together for the "Tournament of Champions" at Emerald Hills Golf and Country Club, July 18 in StouffvilJe. A special handicap formula,, approved by the Canadian Professional Golfers Association, will be used. Play is open to all golfers. To participate, 'golfers pick the course of their choice, pay $10 for a score card, plus green fees if applicable. Participants .may enter as often as they like at $10 a round. The score card represents $2 to- the pro shop for prizes to the winners and $ for the Easter Seal Society. AI Balding Golf Week for Timmy is sponsored by Carling O'Keefe Brewenes and administered by nine -Regional Police Associations. Balding, inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 1985 and multiple CPGA champion, has been an Easter Seal Society supporter for 12 years. Free Press photo Celebrities at MS Cup On Wednesday, June 15, Thunderbird golf course in Ashburn will be swarming with entertainers and celebrities from the world of sports, television and radio for the second annual M.S. Cup celebrity golf tournament and dinner put on by the Oshawa Jaycees andthe Durham Region chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Major sponsors once again for this year's event are Molsons and Seagram Coolers. Proceeds from this years M.S. Cup are going to the Durham chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society for their patient services. This year's co-honorary chairmen are Juno awardwinner Tom Cochrane and NHL'er John MacLean of the New Jersey Devils. Some celebrities who are confirmed at this time include Hàgood Hardy; Chalk Cirles' Darrick Murphy and Brad ,Hopkins; NHL players Dan Daoust and Dale DeGray of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dave Andreychuck of the Buffalo Sabres, Joe Cirella of the New Jersey Devils;, television and radio personalities Mike Anscombe of Global News, Tom Gibney of CFTO News, Steve Anthony of Much Music. Aso joining this year will be Oshawa native Barbara Underhill. The 20 will have shot the low scores at the golfers' qualifying school which got underway at Thunderbird golf course in Ash- burn Monday. The field included 116 players, 29 of them Canadian. Americans make up the majority of the field with 80 entries and there are entries from Japan, England, Mexico, the West Indies and Barbados. Prize money for the four-day tournament is $7,500, with the winner taking home $1,000. One of the more notables afthe qualifying school this year is 26-year-old Jack Nicklaus Jr., whose more famous father, Jack Nicklaus, the Golden Bèar, is said by some to be the greatest golfer the game has ever seen. The Canadian Tour will have 14 stops this year, including the Canadian Open, which offers prize money of $1 million.
