Angela Dye, a parent of'a Pickering student accepted into the performing arts program, spoke for parents outside of Oshawa. Parents want the board to inivestigate whether there is an existing school bus run which students can use to get to O'Neill. Parents say they would pay for any such' arrangement, as they are concerned about their chiidren riding public transpor- tation, according to Dye. During discussion of Dye's proposai, Pickering trustee Lomna Murphy said "This is not the Durham Regional School of Performing Arts." She said she feit the board was not mandated to provide transportation for ýhese students but the board should consider the parents' proposai as the "program is an excellent one." "The Bill that we just passed excludes this group of people frorn board funded transportation," said Wihitby trustee Patty Bow- man about the revised trans- portation policy that was recently approved by the board. Bowman said if the parent request was approved, "The whole board will lose ail credibility." Property and transportation staff will consider a bus system that parents will pay for.
