The chase began when an officer attempted to pull over a car at Dundas St. E. and Perry St., Whitby, because the 1974 Datsun had no front licence plate. The driver of the Datsun attempted to elude police by driving through various streets in Whitby before heading west on Hwy 401, reaching speeds in excess of 130 kph. The car exited the 401. at Westney Rd. and headed east. on Hwy. 2 toward Pickering Village. Police were able to box the car in with cruisers in the village. The youth, who cannot be identified under the Young Offenders Act, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, failing to stop-for police, .and having no insurance. FROM PAGE 1 crosswalk at Mary St. E. and Hickory St. for senior citizens. He also wants something done about truck-trailers unloading cars on Dundas St. E. (He notes the trucks do not park on Dundas in the centre ward but he said many people in the centre ward do complaini about the trucks tying up traffic.) He also says the town is not growing too fast but he would like to slow.down growth' a little. "I would like to take a more serious look at What. we are doing in terms of growth," said Dolstra, who would not give further details until a full campaign is underway. He also said the Whitby transit system will be an issue in the election, noting' that the system stops at 6:30 p.m. 'What about the people that take the GO train after that time," said Doîstra, acknowledg- ing that the system is about to enter its first year. Dolstra joins Lynda Buffett, Joan Skelton, Glen Konorowski and Jeff DeFinney in seeking the centre ward seat to be vacated by Marcel Brunelle. Brunelle bas announced he will seek a seat at the regional level. "I decided a year ago to run," said Dolstra, indicating he would have run against Brunelle if he had run in the centre ward again. Dolstra - is now the vice- chairman of the education committee of Local 222 and bas served three terms with the Oshawa and District Labor Council. He said the interest shown in this year's municipal election is due directly to the many heated issues council bas had to debate during the past year and a half. 0MB hearing FROM PAGE 1 of the addition would only "prolong the eventuality" that the house will cease to be a boarding home. Evans also asked that, in the event the addition is approved, Willis submit a site plan to the Town with the condition that no boarders stay in the existing home after the addition is built. One resident who spoke against the addition, David Little, questioned the availablity of parking. Short said four parking spaces must accompany the addition, but Little questioned whether that was enough. He noted that none of the boarders now at the house drive. But he was concerned what would happen if Willis sold the house and the new owner brought in boarders who could drive. He also questioned the location of the house. The board had heard that there are six boarding houses in Town with at least two others in the area of Euclid St. "We are doing our share," said Little. Livingstone also asked that Willis be awarded the costs of the hearing from the municipality if the addition is approved.
