Deborah' Lynn Tsagris, 30, Of Witbyle runing ag'ainst incumbents Ed Finan, Tom Oldman and Catherine Tunney for the separate board. 'ýý' Married, with two sons, she is a bachelor'of science graduate of the University of Toronto,- speci- alizing in'psychology. Tsagris is employed as found7er and direetor of Child Parent Counselling, and is7 a member of the Social Planning Council. She says she is concerned with overcrowding in the separate s"stem; providing an educational system to accommodate special education and gifted students; proidngan "lup te date" eduatinand- that trustees provide intelligent, informed leadership to best utilize the tax dollars allotted ta, education. Incumbent Catharine Tunney is currently vice % chair of the separate school board. She sits on nine active committees, chairing three of them. She is married and bas two children in the school system. With a minimum of ight new trustees ta be elected ta the separate board, Tunney feels it is essential that there be exper- ienced and dedicated trustees re-elected who have the ability to assume leadership positions. She would like te see to complétion a number of' projects in which she bas taken a special interest, including the return of a Whitby separate school, the establishment of appropriate child care. facilities in the new schools, and a more active parent communications committee. ,'Incumbent Tom Qéiman, with five children -in the system, also wants ta see the separate high school project comleted. He says-be beckime interested in a trustee position when, some years ago, Whitby lost Denis (YConnor H-igh School to Ajax. SOldman, sits on the education, centre committee, which bas been considering new administrative offices ta handle overcrowding of staff at the existing centre. *Ed Firian, a- veteran of the separate board, bas a few ojectives be would like ta see fulfilled before he leaves school board. He wants te see the planned schools for Whitby built by 1990, and to lobby the Province for more funding. Finan wants te make the system "even better" for bis eight grandchildren in the system. Cballenging tbe three incum- bents in the public school system are Joe Butson, Mark Flew- welling, Carl Kaye, and Lloyd Wallen. Wallen, accountant and graduate of the University of Toronto, i s married and the father of two sons. He bas been a resident of Whitby for six years. Wallen is concerned with illiteracy in scbools, overcrowding in Whitby schools, and the student-teacher ratio. Mark Flewwelling, 31, is a bank manager, and bas ived in Whitby for two years.
