Ceremony to open fami*ly apartment buldi ng A ceremony to mark the officiai opening of Wood Farni Manor, 70 apartments for families, wil be held on June 23 at Il arn. at 1525 Nichol Ave., Whitby. Rene Seetens, MP for Ontario, representing Alan Redway, Minister of State (Housing), and Allan Furlong, MPP for Durham Centre, on behaif of Chaviva Hosek,' Ontaro's Mini ster of Housing, are scheduled to attend. The housing was developed under the federaVprovincial non-profit housing programn and is sponsored by Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation. It contains one one-bedroom, 55 two-bedroomns and 14 three-bedroom apartments. Some of the units are ofi'ered at the average market rent for Whitby and the remainder will be made available to families with Iow to moderate incemes. Financial assistance is provided by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Ontario Ministry of Housing. The $5-million capital cost of the development is being met with a mortgage loan amortized over 35 years from London iÀfe Insurance Company. The loan is insured under the National Housing Act by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The total annual operating subsidy for the 70-unit project is estimated at more than .426,000. It is expected that 35 of the units will be allocated to needy households. Subsidies on these units will be shared by the governments of Canada and Ontario on a 60:40 basis. This assistance will be provided for a 35year period. The remainirig 35. units are expected to be made available at the- market rentai rate, with amounts based initially on rents of comparable accommodation ia the community.
