Committee had been asked previously, after a study of the transit system, to raise t he aduit and student fares to $1 on Oct. 2. Aduit fares are now 70 cents while student fares are 55 cents. But committee and last week, council, disgareed with that recommendation and asked staff instead to examine the impact of not raising the fare until D ecem- ber. In a repr to op erations com- mittee Monda y night, treasurer, AI Claringbold, noted the fée increase in August would. grenerate an additional $10,000 in revenue in September, Octo- ber and November. Claringbold noted staff had projected l'ares of $383,200 dur- ing 1989, but actual figures show fares will be $225,000. Operations committee feit the additional three months would give residents a chance to dis- cover the new transit routes. Durham police seek Oakridges driver On Wednesday, June 14 at about 11:15 a.m. a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Regional Rd. 23, about 1 km north of the l3th concession of Scugog. Margaret Best was driving southbound with her two sons, Kevin, 4, Colin, 3, when a vehicle travelling northbound crossed to her side of the roadway and bit ber vebicle head-on. As the resuit of this collision, ail three were taken te, Port Perry Hospital. The two children were transferred to Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto. Kevin died on June 16. The driver of the other vehicle bas now been identified as Kenneth Arthur Hudson, 23 Wildwood Avenue, Oakridges, Ontario. Warrants have been issued for him for one count of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm. Police are asking anyone with information on bis wbereabouts to call the Durham Regional Police at 683-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 436-8477. Ail calis will be treated confidentially and a reward of up te $1,000 in cash will be paid for information leading to bis arrest.
