PDAJ&-GE A4, WIIITY ME PRESS, Fishing, JULY 12,1989 workshops held at Warta .Fising 18 Canadian Sportsfishing, which produces the highly successfu TV show broadcast on TSN and CTV and featuring Italo Labignan- and Henry Waszczuk, as weil as &ublising the new national sing magazine Canadian Sportfishing, held a series of single day fly flshing workshops in April, May and June at Warta Trout Lakes, 80 ' km north of Whitby on Hwy 12. The workshops -were designed primarly for those who have neyer or rarely fly fished before, and there was expert coaching for the more experienced fly fisher wisng to brush up hi&'her skIlls. Chief instructor was Chris Marshall, assistant editor of Canadian Sportfishing Magazine and pro-staff fly fishing specialist. Co-instructors were Duncan Hardie,' world-traveiled fly fisher and marine biologist, and AI Hassae, fly fishing artist with extensive fly fishing experience across Canada. Both have four years of experience professionally instructing fly fishing from Ontario to Labrador. Although the workshops covered selecting and balancing equipment, knots and leaders, entomology, choosing the right fly, and casting instruction, the emphasis was on actual fly fishing techniques - streamer fly, lure, wet fly, and dry fly. Ais covered was fishing with both boating and sinldng limes. The location lent itself to this approach - a four-acre spring-fied lake stocked with naturalized rainbows up to six pounds. Located on Scugog 8th conces- sion, the farm once stocked speckled trout. But with a hot summer predictedm owner Peter Noble decided to stock with ,rain- bow trout this year. "The rainbow like the warmer weather while the speckled like it cooler," said Noble.
