Letter: To the editor Copy of letter to Paul Godin,4 Director cf Conàplaints, CRTC Dear Mfr. Godin: I amwriting this letter to you with the hope that an injustice can be corrected. Most recently Bell Canada'conducted a survey in* the Whitby area to see if the WVhitby residents wanted a toîl- free service to Toronto. As MY telephone bills average approximately $75 per month, I aniously awaited the vote. When I didn't receive a copy, I, called Bell and told them. They advised. thev would check into it and see what they could do. Hélore 1 ne it, an ann-ouncement was in the paper that the vote was turned down by 56 per cent te 44 per cent - Bell advised they had a 72 per cent response rate. I called Bell again asking why I didn't receive a ballot and they advised the survey was processed. by a marketing departmnent within Bell, and it was mailed under separate cover based on a computel printout of the telephone list. If my name was on the list they would have te assume I received it, as the names were not re-checked and they would not have mailed another. They also informed me that it would work like an Space Age Shelving are the experts in maximizing your closet space. I do not know a great deal of pope in Whitby. However, after 1Icalled our, local newp4pr, and also checked with friends I arn not the only one that didn't get te vote. I might add, of these friends, three out of four have very high phone buis (one person pays Bell $1,75 per month for an ,Ajax lime). I am nmot a radical person but I have a hard tirne understanding why Bell did not respond te my call. Also, why was this survey sent out by third class mail at approximately $4,500 in additional mailing costs? I arn also emlsoing an article from the Whitby Free Press dated July 5/89. It ie my opinion that if this survey had been conducted properly (on- the phone bill), a more accurate opinion of the residents and btumsnesses in Whitby (and those people who purchase Ajax Unes) would be expressed. Bell Canada should include a true rate increase rather than a high estimate. I ami mot asking for only myself, but for the countless others who did not receive this survey.
