She was one of three . students who received bursaries frein the Rotary Sunrise club. The other students were Mark McCann of Denis O'Connor and Kim Thomp* son of Henry Street High School. Ail three recently spoke to Rotary Sunrise members about their family and their future goals. Criteria that determine awards from the 'club are: Whitby residents; -minimum- 75 per cent graduating. average; attending a post secondary insti- tution; financial need; school lea- dership. In my spare turnie, I did various other jobs such as, help eut the volunteers in the office, help organize drives for clients, calculate figures for the end of month reports, help on -several Meals on Wheels routes,> made signs, typed, photocopied, sent letters through the stamp machine, and painted some windows. I aise, learned a lot while I was here. I learned about volunteers and the need. for them in the community. Some cf the volunteers I met in the officeand on the phone have been very interesting, and al of them have a different reasen for volunteering a great portion cf their turne. Some are retired and are trying te, stay active, others have had -a troubled life,, and are starting over by helping us. Some just enjey paying back some turne to the comrnunity. I have also seen people and have been te, peeples heuses where-I amn sure they weuid net be able te survive without our care. Se I consider this summer less cf a job and more of a learning experience, where I have seen parts cf Whitby I neyer knew existed, and I neyer knew cf the high amount cf seniors in this town. I have enjoyed spencling my summer here, I have learned a lot and earned some good money, which not Many ids cen say about their summer job. -Thank you.
