"The issue was raised by many peole during the November election and although I neyer shxed away from-responding, I respected the many views that were expressed to me. In the maqjority those views reflected a "pro-lie" attitude.- The recent public cases on abortion has inflazned the issue further and caused both sies to cig in further for the pitched battle. The courts have miade it clear that a wornan has certain, right's in cfioosing whether she will carry the.fetus but it also requested the governiment to provide some guidance to proteet the fetus. Doug Lewis, Minister of Justice, is working on this new legisiation and hopefully will introduce it this fali. It will be a bill in response to the Supreme Court of Canada ruling. I have tried to meet with ail those who wished to influence my thinking on abortion but I know that there are many of my constituents I have not heard from. I want ail of your views.'
