PAGE 4. WHITY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23,1989 Bugelli: Newman Cres. work may be 'dead.issu'* Whitby council feels that work on Newman Ores. under the local improvement policy is a dead issue, according to west ward councillor Joe Bugelli. «Council did state we would react to the request of the resi- dents," said Bugelli. Last month, most residents on' Newman Cres. voted against the new policy. 0f the 43 notices sent; out to the residents, 30 were reéturned to the Town, ail of them opposed to the policy. However, in a letter sent to Bugelli, a Newman Ores. resi- dent asked what the 'public works departinent will reconi- mend to council. "Please specify this to al resi- dents: in writing before Sept. 5, 1989," wrote L. Laycock of 606 Newman Ores. "The report is not finished yet but discussions here have been not te, go ahead with the work,» said Wayne Hancock of the pub- lic works departnient. (tlnder the policy, introduced by counicil this year, Newman Ores. residents would have con- tributed $61, 150 toward the $350>000 cost of the project.) Hýncock said a letter sent to the residents from thËe Town dîd not contain what the works department's recommendation would' be because the final deci- sien is up te ceunicil. Bugelli said council would vote not to go ahead with the work bécause it has been turned down bre the majority of Newman Ores. Work on Coronation Rd. under the policy was also included in this year's budget. Bugelli,> said, it' would be "assinine"ý for council te, shy away froni that project' because of the vote on Newman -Cres. "You can't apply the views -of (Newman Ores. residents) te, some other areas of town,» said Bugelli. Work on Coronation Rd. will cost $600,000. The Town* has yet te work out the cost te, the residents or appraoch theni to determine if they are in faver of the work.
