There is one vacancy yet te býe filled., Flowers flourish In spite of another dry summer over 110 entries were submitted for judging at the "Annuals Show" held on Wednesday, Aug. 23 by the Brooklin Horticultural Society. Mary Housego was the big winner, winning the "Best Flower Specimen," "Best Gladiolus Specimen" and "Best Decorative" awards, with John Beecroft taking the "Best Vegetable Specimen" awvard. Speaker Tom Leedie, of Leedie Landscaping in Myrtle, brought many interesting saniples of shrubs for use in beautifying homes. Hlis informative.aIk kept Optimists meet The next meeting of the Optindst Club of Brooklin Wil11 be held Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. The dinner meeting will feature a guest speaker and a reunion of the members who have not met during the summer. The capital projects committee recently met with the Town of Whitby recreation departinent te discuss a proposed skateboard track te be located in the Brooklin Ifairgrounds. If approved, by council, the club will construct the track for opening in the early spring. WaJk ithe woods Brooklin Horticultural Society will hold a 'Walk in the Woods' on Sunday, Sept. 10, 1:30 p.m., at the Ashburn community centre. Society president Joan Brak will lead the walk and help identify wîld faîl flowers. Cost is $5. AIl welcome. The program is open to boys aged 5 to 14, and young men and women ageg 14 to 17. Information wiIl be available about each section of the program. including beavers, wolf cubs, scouts and venturers. The registration fee is $35. The beaver program (age 5 te 7) meets Mondays, and the other sections meet on Wednesdays throughout the school year.
