At a recent meeting, PAW committee members voted in favor of keeping the shelter open until 9 p.ni. on Wednesday. The decision was made after several resi'dpnts of. Pickering and Ajax said they were unable to get to the shelter before the doors closed at 4:30 p.m. Councillor Dennis Fox, who represents Whitby on the board, said the decision is a;"big step." "There have been concerns over, whether or not the shelter bas been providing adequate ser- vice," says Fox, adding the extra hours should allow residents extra time' to get from work 'to the shelter to retrieve their pets. He suggests the, decision to- extend the hours of operation should also help to "solidify» the existence of PAW.
