The monthly building permit report released by the Town's public works departmnent shows the number of permits issued s0 far this year is up slightly from this time last year. }Iowever, the value of permits issued is currently about $163- million, well above the $135- million figure for the samne 10 months of 1988.. Baton Twirling lias been granted 'sports recognition in Ontario by the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation. The announcement, made in Toronto. by Hugh P. O'Neil, capped an extensive lobbying effort by the, sports body association. The Ontario Baton Twirling Association Inc. (OBTA) was formed ini 1980 as a provincial association te organize baton twirling competitions, workshops, seminars and certification courses te develop athletes, coaches and officiais, as well as representing the provincial inembers at the national level. "Baton twirling lias been part of the Canadian sport scene, for over 41 years," said Betty Davis, president of the OBTA.. 'We are- excited about this recognition.
