Free Press photo School hockey season begins .he high schoôl hockey league will begiri its fourth season today (Wednesday), and league con- verier Derrick Moore is expecting igxciting, competitive sche- dule. The league has gained two more teams, Dunbarton and Cartwright, but lost two in Brock and Harwood. So like last year, 12 teams will be involved in a 70-game schedule. As always, there's a strongly enforced rule on no-fighting, with suspensions of four games for first offence fighters. Repeat offenders will be banished in- definitely. Moore likes the idea of some teams adopting a "first fight is your lastigt policy, and offen- ders quicy find themselves without a team. In February a Durham high school all-star teani will be selec- ted to play in a tournament for the top eight regions, held at Appleby College in Halton. The tournament will be sponsored, with uniforms supplied and ice time paid for all teams involved. Among aims of the tournament ate to promote players for junior A hockey and help players get scholarships to colleges and universities. The LOSSA final will be held at the Oshawa Civic Centre, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m., unlike last year when it was held in the after- noon. It has been moved to the evening so that friends and fai- ily will be able to attend. Local television coverage is also expec- ted. Ken Scott and Rick White, the Anderson Raiders' hockey coaches, feel they have a very strong team, all. the way down the roster. In net, they look to either Kevin Thrasher, Jeremy Stella or Mike Hajdu to prevail as the cornerstone of the team. They'll get some physical power from such defencemen as John Van7- derheyden, Jason Gurd and Kevin Kerr. Up front, they have potential high scorers in Sean Hault, Keith Tanguay, Steve Wing and multi-talented Dean Mizen. "Overall we're a well-balanced team that could go all the way this year", said Scott. "We have a very exerienced team with lots of deth, and our second and third linesiseem very capable of causing some prob) p t e opposistion. a Coaches Gord Brady and Bob Deblois have an almost brand new Henry Street High School team, but one-that appears pro- ý:mising, says Brady.' Mike Garton is the only returning player from last year. However, a number of prospects have tried out and it looks like a good team can be constructed despite the lack of veterans, says Brad . ";e seem to have qaiy players, players, have a not overly outstanding but this enables us to fairly solid team," he says. Last year H-enry had an average season that ended with a 3-1 loss to Eastdale in the quar- ter-finals. "The team should fall together after a few games into the sea- son, when they've had a chance to establish themselves, and figure out the right lines".
