The team, under coach Jack Middleton, assistant coach Chuck Sawdon, manager Russ Campbell and tramner Mike Thorne, have developed a 9ood balance of offenoe and defence with 46 go ais for and 12 goals against. The Whitby defence held their ground, while the offenoe opened Up. This was a fast, clean gamne that saw Pickering outshoot Whitby 19-11, but saw Whitby outscore Pickering 5-3. This gamne was won by the Whitby defence and goaltending. T'hornhili were easy prey on Dec. 30, as Whitby, in their third game of the tournament, mani- handled themn 8-1. -An inspired Whitby teami was led by Chris Kerr, Lars Clay, and Daniel Thorne on the attack. Kerr himself earned five points. Outshooting Thornhill 33-10 heliped Whitby win the ae and advance them to the can pionship game against the Aurora. With the chaxnpionship and the right te advance te the inter- natiomnal silver stick tournament at stake, both teamns bit the ice with desire and determination. From the drop of the puck both teanis looked for holes in the others armor. Whitby found Aurora's and scored the first goal of the game. SIt was sooreless until the third when both teanis managed to couniter each other with; two goals. Aurora pulied their goalie* with 30 seconds remaining. Key saves by Josh Evans and a slide by Ricica te block the gamne-tying goal kept Whitby in front. Whitby, after their latest wins, stili hold first place in league play. On Dec. 15, Whitby defeated Ajax 8-1. Witby totally dominated the game, -and except for somne excellent work by the Ajax goalkeepers, the score would have been much higher. Shots on goal were 24-8 in favor of Whi-tby. Donny Campbell, Chris Kierr, Danny Ricica, Aaron Bryant and Bryden Denyes on defense combined with Josh Evans in the Whitby net to almost hold Ajax scoreless, while Paul Gray, Mark Haynes, Bryan Crouch, Steven Death, Darryl Lewis, Daniel Thorne combined to deliver the offensive punch that led to the victory. In a Dec. 16 exhibition gamrc., Whitby shut out Markham 4-0. Brian Harrison, in the Whitby net, picked up his fourth straight shutout. This was a tough game with 16 penalties handed out, il to Whitby and five to Markhamn. Close checking by the WhiMtby teamn frustrated Markham and contributed to the high number of penalties. Denyes played a fine defensive shutout. Whitby had opportunities (shots on goal 18-4 for Whitby) with Lars Clay.
