Especially since eveything went in threes. «I read articles in magazines that get me interested in the 1953 and 1956 Fords,w says Gary, 27. Mly dad had quite a few vehicles and he knew 1 wanted one, se he bcught me a 1952 truck when I was fourteen. It wasn't any geed, se next he brought home & 1953. At that time 1 didn't have the ability te, do anything with it, se 1 sold it. Six years later 1 was ready te de a truck, se 1 bcught this 1956. wWhen 1 get it, it took a long time te put together. This is the third set cf fenders and the third hood 've bought for it. 1 bought the ethers from wrecking years Mnd when 1 got the paint off them and had a good look at them, they j ust weren't good enoug h to fix up.0 Through working with his father and his shep classes at sohool, Gary, now a machine repairman at Generai Motcrs, leamed enough te build his truck himself. He even had te fabricate a new box for it once the mechMnical work was done. Only a small amount of bodywork, the paint and upholstery were done elsewhere.' Gary encys working on the truck, especially since it finds it easier te restere than a car. *Everythirig unbolts on these,w he says. nIf you can unde nuts and boîts, you can take on apart. You-can aise buy just about every part for it brarid new since se much is being repreduced for them. This is aise the first year that they had 12-volt systems and wraparound windshieîds, which makes it more interesting for me.w Once the truck was finished, it was time for Gary and his wife Sonya te enjey it. They jeined the Southemn Ontario Cîassic Pickup Club, which has thirty members ranging frem Kirkîand Lake te Niagara Falls. *Senya wasn't tee thnilled about it ai the start,* Gary admits, Obut once we got inte the club, she met a lot of friends and she began te get invelved.0 Gary is new president ef the club, and he and Sonya put eut the club newsletter aleng with help frem the club's vice-president and his wife. nOur club stresses family involvement,e Gary says. *We help each ether build our trucks and we have fun together. We had a truck show which he held in Pleasure Valley, because we wanted things for the kids te do duning the show. OA lot cf people in the club can do things 1 can't, se they heîp me when I need it. 1 love leeking through wrecking yards for parts Mnd sometimes l'Il go eut te find things for ether club members tee, net just myself.* He admits that belenging te Southern Ontario Classios Pickups made his hobby enjoyable fer bcth himself and his wife. wAt first, she neyer saw me, because 1 was always eut uncler the truck,% he says.. *There wasn't much for her te do, and 1 joined thé club because 1 wanted her te have an interest. Now that we bath have friends in the club Mnd we do things, we're beth interested in it. We're both having fun with the truck which is why I* wanted it in the first place.0 Ail Cedar Folding Lawn Furniture Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Space Saving, Affordable OLD TIME QUALITY "THE MACHINE SHOP"f - Quality work at competitive rates s No job too small s 20 years machining experience 10 SUNRAY, UNIT 13 WHITBY, ONT.
