Shih asi Investment Corp. wants te build a four-story, 89- room hotel on the northeast cor- ner of Brock St. and Hwy. 401. However,- Shihasi has been waiting until work can proceed on a new exit ramp from the highway onte Consumers Rd. te replace the current eit onto Brock. Shihasi president Vinnie Patel said that if the hotel was built now, inotorists would be able te see it from the highway but would have difficulty getting te it. He said moterists would have te drive through the residential area and mighit be discouraged trying to find the-hotel. " Right now they don't have a convenient exit. The new one to be bujît onto Consumers will take themn right -to our door,» said Patel. Patel said the hotel is con- tingent upon the raxnp work pro- ceeding. While he wants to build in Whitby, Patel does not want te wait much longer. Ufl's a good location, we're pre- pared to wait a reasonable length of time. But if it goes on teo long we might have te look elsewhere.» Patel estimated the cost of the building at $8 te $9 million. Workers began renovating the building this week in preparation for future occupants of the pre- mises. The building will be converted inte two retail stores on the ground floor and offices upstairs. Gerry Whattam of W. Frank Real Estate said no new tenants are prepared te move into the building at this time. However, owner Bert Felice cf Toronte decided to proceed with the renovations in the hope Of attracting tenants, said What- tam.
