Using a Town council meeting Manda as his forum, Bugelli said the repart contains "mis- leading and derogatory com- ments" about CLO A which he, as chai*rma!n, cannot leave un- challenged. The document in question is the interimi repart of the Royal Commission on the Future of the Greater Toronto Waterfront, under chairman David Crambie former Toronto mayor and federal cabinet minister. The report, called Watershed, contains recommendations based on presentations made to the commission during a series of public meetings earlier this year. Aithough the 207-page docu- ment has some positive com- monts ta make about waterfront planning in Durham Region, it aiso has criticisme. Much of the local. criticismn howover, appears ta be dircte at, conservation autharities such as CLOCA. It is with this criticism that Bugelli takes umibrage. Pointing out that he was voic- ing his awn opinion and not the official position of CLOCA, Bugelli attacked Crambie's reportaen a number of topîcs. Hedefended CLOCA'a recent attempt ta develop a subdivision on lands it owns in north Osh- awa. Claiming Crombie missed the point of CLOCA's develapment proposai, Bugelli said CLOCA is tical of any agency that e *ends on the government for a sub stntial portion of its fund- ~Inting that CLOCA is frozen at 1977 funding levels, Bugeili asks how a "very small agency» such as a conservation authority can compote with more pawerful interests for a greater portion of government funding. "And yet we must cope, and we have done so by attracting atten- tion ta aour economic situation," said Bugelli. "We h ave created a unique consideration for the provincial ninister in charge ... to ask why it has come into being," he explained. Bugelli said he was «per- plexed» that plans by the Ontario government ta take 500 acres of Land including 3/4 mile of lak- eshore) at the Witby Psychiatric Hospital out of public awnership, «does not figure in the waterfront SÏthe authority's subdivi- sion proposal on 26 acres located 6. miles north of the lakeshore does.» Bugelli said Crombie's report notes that CLOCA produced a ion -rage wterfontilan in '4 ¶4 ~ tI~~»f~J~ 5~i ~ *.E uopean WomenWs Hea(tlb rb Fail Opôen Housçe Lane®@@ Customi Cover Sale SAVING 0F 20% With over 800 decorator fabrics to choose from, and 80 different styles, select any style of sofa, loveseat or chair and have it custom buiît for you, using the highest stand ards such as a web & coil construction.
