TIhe major reason for their success was the stalwart work of the defensive corps, backed by the excellent goltonding of Bryan Sand. The result was four straight victories and only one goal against for the whole tournament. The flrst gaine was strictly a warm-up with an easy 8-0 win ýver Fredonia, N.Y. Goals were notched by Grog Johnston, Jeif Pichut, Ryan Farrow, Dane Dainard, with Bon Stanton and Andrew Greenan getting two each. The next day the tea= kated bard te, a 2-0 win over Wheatfleld, N.Y. on goals b Farrow and Greenan. Ian Witulk and Chris Elson played strong defensive gaines te preserve the shuteut. Later that day the teamn played a tough Branipton squad to a2-1 victory on goals by Farrow and a beautiful marker by Dainard. Onya lato goal by Bramipton spoiled the shutout string. The best game was the final, a rematch with Brampton which cimaxed in a 3-0 victory. Goals by Ryan Matthews, Greenan and Dainard provided the margin of victery, as this scrappy bunch from Whitby highlighted in this contest their vast imprvemnent since being fored in mid-December. Eberhardt, 17, a Whitby rosi- dent who is a student a t Ajax High &chool, has seen ber share of the area and Canada. She bogan playing in Ajax but switched to Oshawa. Eberhardt is the only Whitby athlete compoting at the games. Whitby won the flrst game 4-1 in overtime after Michael Konieczny, assisted by Lue .Archambault, tied the score at one apiece with 41 seconds remaining in regulation turne. Overtime consisted of a full ton-minute period in which the golcorors for Whitby were Sean M Rury with two (assists te Kybe Wailes, David Morasse, Mike Morrison) and Bobby McBride with one. The third gaine on Feb. 10 in Markhazn, had Whitby recording a, 1-0 win in a very close, aggressive game. Paul Valaitis, Whitby goaltender, got his second shutout of the series. The only goal was scored by Ian Haywood, with assists to Jay Harrison and Jeffrazer. Whitby could wind up the series on F'riday, Feb. 15 in Brooklin, as they lead Markham three games te none in the best-of-seven.. The Whitby team, coached by Cathy Dalton finished ahead of Port Carling Vintage Blues and Brampton Guardian Angels in the adult category (75 per cent of the teain members muet be age 25 or older). Whitby Ice Angels finished third overaîl in the novice (up to age 15) category. Ice Angels, coached by Jody Lyne Jones, were second in their f iit. Bramp'ton Angelettes won the noviceSdivision, -Laval, Que. was scnd. Bramton Ice Angels won the juniorÎ(any age, maximum 20 skaters) division. Kitchener- Waterloo Quuens on Ice was second and CPA Delson, Que. was third. Whitby'has no junior teain. There was no compettion in the senior category.
