WHJTY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JULY 10,. 1991, PAGE il Milne's landscapwes to be shown at MeLaughlin An exhibition of contemporarj landscape paintings by Calgary artist Barbara Milne will open at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery on July 18. Milne's luminous landecapes have a haunting qua]ity. In them, one finds an echo of the solitude of the land, the striking curve of the horizon and the silent movement of natural elements. The paintings are richly coloured and vibrant. Milne moved from Ontario ta Aberta in 1979. She develops ber paintings from sketches, incor- porating changes suggested by meînory and imagination. She concentrates on the expressive qualities of light, niovemnent and colour. Almost surreal in effect, Milne's large, enigmatic works process the moody qua]ity of a recurrent dream. Her canvasses draw attention to the powers of nature which lie beyond our control. ' Spirited Places' is organized by Katherine Lipsett, curator of THE STATION Gallery held the openng reception and awards presentation of the Members '91 juried exhibition on the weekend. Above, Andrew Wysotski stands with 'The Foreet-scene one' which won for beet painting. The exhibition runs umtil Aug. 4.
