The chairman of the Central Lake. Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) is outraged at asat week's decision to appoint only regional council menirs to the authority. "Itis the moat underhanded thing the Region could have done,» says Joe Bugelli, Whitby west ward councillor who has been CLOCA chairman for the îast five years and a member for Buelli, who is n ot running i next week's municipal election for Town council, but rather for a separate school trustee position, says he, is not affected in any way by the decision. But he feels the regional coun- cil decision, b y a recorded vote of 23 to 7, will cost CLOCA the experience of municipal council members who have served the authority for several years. He say'a the «general overali view of muniucipalities» will be replaced by the Region view. 'Thmey've effectively made CLOCA an extension of the Region.» Durham Region and the po vince provide fùnding for CLOCA operations8. Drumm says that if he is re-elected next weekt, "I want te be on CLOCA te make sure Region senior staff will not run the daxnn thiiw (CLOCA).» ««It (CLOCA) will become viewed as on old boys network- available only to regional coun- cillors" says Edwards, who also says tue expertise of long-serving lcal councîl members, including threePfrom Oshawa, will be lost. Mayor Bob Attersley is a memi- ber of the Region standing com- mittee, under chairman Gary Herrema, that recommended the change..
