In 1987 there were only 96 players. After being down 3-1 at the end cf the second period, Whitby played good. hockey and scored two goals in the third to get the tie. Scoring for Whitby were Mfichael Morrison, Blaine Down and Sean Walsh. Assiste went te Down, Robert Lalonde, Jason Peyman, Matt McKay, David Morasse and Jeremy Fisher. In the return gaine played at Broolin' Luther Vpond Arena, Whlitby came eut flying but just couldn'lt find the range. After al was done, Whitby lost by a 5-3 margin. Scoring for Whitby were Jeif Frýazer, Walsh and Down. Assists went to Bobby McBride, Peyman, Steven Farquharso, Morasse and Jay Harrison. Two bronze for Foster .Tiffani Foster, 13, of Whitby had two third-place finishes at a figure skating competition in Cobourg over the weekend. Callander second in the Dur- ham schoofs coXnpetition, was fourth in the mite (aged 8 and Lawso n gets shutout for Whitlby peewees The steel curtain was raised at Ajax-Pickering's home arena on Oct. 30 when the Whitby Maksteel Steelers' Tom Lawson reco-rded a shutout in a 4-0 victb&y in miner peewee AAA hockey. The defensive duo cf Matt Capson and Don Campbell, backed up by Luke McKay, prteted the. Steelers' zone while MakEHaynes -with two goalsand Jason Hotchkiss sud Dan Thorne with one apiece provided the offensive power. Brent Lazary, Justin Collins, Don Camipbell and Bryan Crouch provided assists. On Nov. 2, at Kfingston's home arena, intensity was provided with a new example when the Maksteel. teain played its best gaine cf the year in defeating its rival 7-3 in a tough checking, high level passing gaine. Most of the teain accumulated pons, including Ryan O'Leary (3), Crouch (3), Hotchkiss (3), Haynes (2), Darryl Lewis (1), Mike Robertson (1), Dave Farquharson (1), Steve Death (1), Camnpbell (1) and Collins (1). While there were many highlights in this contest, some cf the best included outstanding goaltending by Josh Evans, hard forechecking by- Lazary aud crunching body checks by Dan Rticica and Campbell. Owner Bilan Beckford, a Whitby resident for 12 years, has operated a service centre in Ajax for eight years but was involved extensively i sports activities in Whitby. He was delighted te locate in Whitby when Petro Canada, decided te open a "flaghip»"centre at Rosslsudl hckse n sd the Beckford Service ôentre has been in operation here for a month. The centre provides full automotive service,' including brakes tires, shocks, lube,ocil and Ã'ilter, seasn amIn- tenance sud computerized wheel alignments as well as fuel service. Brian, who has 22 years cf experience in the. business, feels that with teday's buisy lifestyles, one-day service is a muet. Beckford's Service Centre aiso, personalizes their ser- vice by providing ongoing car histeiy maintenance for their custemers. Brian has sponsored teains from both Whitby Mine Basebaland yMinor Hockey for the past four years.
