I arn a grade 12 student at Ecole- Secondaire Catholique Saint-Charles- Garnier. First of all, Md like te, welcome all of the new students. te our achool, whether they are starting grade 9 or grade 12. Md also like te welcome te, our school two more Oshawa Generals, Joel Gagnon and Stephane Soulliere, who join veteran General Stephane Yelle. Well, we've been bock at echool for almeet two months now (time flues, doesn't it?), and our- students have been busy. Our. student government has already organized a few activities, such as 'Initiation Day.' rm sure many of you are familiar witli this concept: the grade 9 students are "auctioned off' te the students from the senior level (grade 11, 12 and OAC) and the next day, the. grade 9 student is subjected te various forms of fun activities (carrying books te bhis/lier* master's class, dressing the way the master telle* hlm/lier te, the list goes on and on). 0f course, te, ensure that it is al in good fun, there are "opolice" students te whom infractions can be reported. If a grade 9 student disobeys his/lier master,* that student is reported, and then is taken te kangaroo court te pay the consequences of hie/ler injustices. The punishnients include having tbbfor potatoes, at the bottom of a fish tank full of water and trying to eat an a ppie dangling from a string, along with many more amusing, little "econsequences", invented by our student government. I myself bought two grade 9 students, with t he help of two of my friende (grade nines are so expensive these days) and we ahl had fun. The day, was a big sucess, and of course it meant a non-uniform ' day for the students (big thanks ta t he administrationý for that). The student governaient has also organized the sale of chocolats bars to raise money for school itivities. Many students are really getting into it, because prizes are offered for the best salespeople, and those prizes include tickets to see the Toronto Blue Jays next season.' So far, the sale seems to be going wehL A. few weeks ago, we had our first school dance to welcome everybody back. It, too,, was a sucess. Well, even though it is kind of late te be doing se, good luck to everyone, and have an awesome ochool year. A bientot, tout le monde! ,ANDERSON CVI students Heather Gable and Chris Duke compete in the Science Olympios Challenge held recentîy in Oshawa. H.S. It's amazing how much faine one gains when one's picture je in the local newspaper. An innocent visit to my optemetriet, for exaniple, resulted in a familiar Saturday Night Live saying, "I know youl I know you!" The. office staff at Henry now knows my namne and teachers rve neyer had before approacli me to comment on my, past writings. I wonder if anyone else is getting as, much recognition for their writing? Anyways, on with my article ... Congrat'.ilations goes out te Henry's science teanie who recently completed at the Regional Science Olympie held at Eastdale. The, intermedliate teamý made up of Brion Qsborne, Sara Colleran and Othen Alexandrak placed third in the engineering competitionand the saine. in the Fermi question category.» 1Michelle- Lue, Chelsea Balzan, and Nesime Asin, who made up the seior teani, finished firet in the plane competition and second in the floating tower construction. Overali, the two teanis ploced second. AUl I want te know is why 'real' science classes are not as fun as that? The Environmental Club lias been kept very busy this> week with their fundrasing campaign. AUl proceeds from the gift wrap sales will go te the World Wildlife Fund te protect the temperate, rainforests of British Columbia. Help preserve Conada's natural space by purchasing some gift wrap for the up and coring Christmas season. As everyone surely knows the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Oakland Athletice last week and in honor of their victory, Hlenry had a Blue Jay Day on Friday. As well as Jay'e attire, studente and staff were encouraged te sport Hawks' wear, too. Hats were allowed te be worn for this special day.- et*1.40 prosperity and competitivenes initiative.
