Chauidra Hunter, 18, is the founder of Whitby's Active and Concerned Youth, a youth com- mittee that aims to help teen- agers stay off the streets and away from alcohol, tobacco and drugs -- through education in fun activities. The awards program recog- nizes young people, aged 6 te 18, who are involved in worthwhile community8ervce who have performed an, act otheroism, or Who are contfributing to the com- rnunity while coping with a phy- sical or psychological limitation. The Ontario Ooxnmunity NewsppersAssociation, with Cnai Airlines International as-patron, sponsors the.awards program. Each norninee receives a certi- ficate. Up to 12 individuals and one group will receive a plaque presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, a Junior Citizen of the Year lapel pin, $200 and a faniily portrait with the lieutenant-governor.
