The pornography legilation, if passed, would strengthen, define and clarify the present law againet obscenity and porno- graphy. The bill aiso introduces, for the firet tme, legislation to crimîmalize the use of children in the production of pornography; tough new measures to protect women froni violence in pornography protection for women, chilcen and society from degrading and dehunianizing pornography as defined in the bill. Reimer's firearm legisiation je designed to send a message of deterrence to anyone thinking about taking a gun along to commit a crime. Minimum mandatory sen- tences would ho increased fromn one te five years for a firat offence, with no eligibility for parole during thie perio.. Sentences would ba increasE d from three te eight years f.r subeequent offenders and maximum sentences from 14 to 20 years.
