The decision came despite im- pasoed pleas from residents' cm ttee member Gary Parkin- son and Whitby regional council- lors against the 'technically pre- ferred' DMZ route, that would cut a wide swath between Halls and Coronation roads. Council approved a joint plan- ning and works commîttee recomnirendation te advise the Ontario Minisr of Transpor- tation that DM Z is the most appropriate location to provide a freeway link... in this corridor» and requested the ministry te "mitigate ?otential impacts» of the link, 'particularly to resi- dents in the Town of Whitby, during the preliminary design phase" of the project.» Despite the setback, Parkinson isn't giving up. He says the battie against the freeway link, which he compares to having the Don Valley Park- way next to one's home, is only begining. He was disappointed by the vote -- "We felt we had a shot."
