There are services available in Durham te meet special needs related te medical, sensory and physical difficulties; a develop- mental delay. or handicap; social, emotional or behavioural con- cerns; learning difficulties; com- munication difficulties and other areas. The presentation will provide helpful tips about where te begin Iooking for services, as welI as information about the type of services available in Durham, how te get them and what they coet. Parents wiIl find out what they can expeet when they contact an agoncy and what they cari do while tbey are waiting for service. The rights of parents and their children wil ho reviewed with regards te issues such as confidentiality, access te informa- tion and participation in decision- malcing. Some parents whose children are already receiving service may flot feel it is the most appropriate service for their child or they may have run into difficuty with a partieular agency or professional. This presentation will also provide tips on where to get help if these types of problems arise.
