Recommended to council The Durham Regional Police dive team was called out Friday night to check a car partly sub- merged in Lake Ontario near the new boat Iaunch off' Gordon St. Police had feared there may have been someone trapped ini- side the vehicle but it was found to beempty. .The car, a 1988 Pontiac Sun- bird, was spotted by someone walking by thearea. Police say it was stolen from the Whitby GO parking lot some- time between 7:40 a.m. Thursday .end 5:30 p.m. Friday. Police say tracks in the lot indicated the thieves did power s pins in the lot before ditching th e car in the lake. An investigation is continuing.
