It is expected that Whitby District Scouts will plant 10,000 trees. It is expected that two million trees will be plantedl by Scouts in Canada this year. Trees for Canada is designed' to give ail memnbers of scouting the opportunity to demonstrate, in a practical way, their concern for Canada. To ensure that the trees will be planted correctly and will have a maimum chance for survival, Whitby district council bas eencouraged aIl participants to seek practical training in conservation and reforestatiora. Bill Dukitsch, chair for the project, pointed out that Trees for Canada is also a fundraising project for the Scout groupa in Whitby district. Funds raised this year will be used to help further scouting in the community, te help pay for participants' travel to the Canndian Jamboree in Calgary this July, and te meet other local needa. Some of the money raised will used te support international programs of Scouts Canada: practical programs designed te help Scouts in developing countries te learn skills and trades so they can help feed and support their families and communities. Each participating Scout will be expecte to pI an 12 te20 trees. Before the trec planting May 15, each Scout will seek support from the community. "Each household will only be contacted by one Scout," stressed Dukitsch. 'We hope people will remember this when they are askçed te participate.' This year, Woolco stores across Canada will contribute teward the planting of 1,000 trees in each of their respective communities. To help promote the project, scouting members set up a display last weekend in the Thickson Road store. The planting wiIl take place on Saturday morning, May 15 in the Lynde Shore Conservation Area just south of Victoria Street. 2 miles east of Newcastle Village o HFwy #2 SCENIC 18 HOLES PAR 7 18 holes -$23.00 18 holes -$20.00 9 holes - $1 7.00 9 hotes - $1 5.00 TWILIGHT ,ý 4:30.
