Page 22, Whitby Free Press, Wednesday, May 5,1993 an pollen, icrreuces allerg For years we have been discussing outdoor air pollution and its effect upon our health. However, at the saine tme, we have been neglecting the air that we breathe inside our homes and offices. Air quality is ne longer just a concern for those suffer'ing from allergies and lasthma. It now affects us ail. Research shows that people spend approximately 90 per cent of their lives indoors. This means we have more exposure te indoor air polution than te pollution eutdoors. A recerit study by the Ontarie Ministry of the Envirennient has now concluded that air inside our buildings is two te, five times higher in some pollutants, referred to, as volatile organic compounds, than the air outdoors. These pollutants are released from many ordinary household items including detergents, waxes, synethetie materials, paints and adhesives. This indoor air problem is further magnified by everyday dirt, dust, pollen, industrial pollution and tobacco smoke trapped indoors because of today's emphasis on conserving energy. One method te ensure cleaner air is by using an electret-carbon air purifier/lonizer. This system combines two forces, an electret-carbon filter- and a negative ionizer. Working together they reniove up te 99 per cent of dirt, duat, pollen, smoke p articles, animal hair and even bacteria. The carbon filter reduces thse unpleasant coeking and smoking odeurs. ~t7aau%~' ai'r cleaners.
