The Father Lea J Austin stu- dent had a time of 12.3 seconds for the 100m. Melone Hoshing of Agincourt was second in 12.5 seconds. Her time for the event a week earlier was a LOSSA record 11.8 seconds. Benyarku had a time of 24.67 seconds for the 200m event, fas- ter than her LOSSA record 24.9 seconds, and ahead of Mcbaugh- lin CVI's Veronica Dyer with a time of 24.80. Adrian Woodley of Anderson CVI also won two events at the regionals. e repeated his LOSSA triumph by winnin g thie junior boys' triple jump with a distance of 14.05 metres, exceeding his LOSSA record 14.04 effort. He also won the 1l10m hurdles, ahead of Pickering's Dion Trowers who nosed out Woodley in the LOSSA competition. Woodley was fourth in long jumpSan event he won at Andrew Channer of Anderson repeated his LOSSA showing by winning the long jump for senior boys. Channer leaped 6.78 metres. He was second in tri ple jump while Henry's Jon HIopkins was third in the event. gar Castle School won the junior girls' shotput with a distance of 10.79 metres. She had previously won the event at LOSSA. Henry's 'JBs' haven't yt found their winning form locally. Ater losses in their first two games, including a humiliating 15-2 setback to Fergus, Redmen bounced bac k strongl with a 7-4 win over Peterborough Quakers on Wednesday. Bedmen captain Tom Wreggitt led the offence with two goals and three assists while Paddy O'Toole, in his flirst year of major level lacrosse, was solid in net for Redm en. The Wolverines, sponsored by Glen HIlI Pharmacy for this tournament, quickly toak charge ai the game with Mathew Paciga opening the scoring in the l8th minute. Mark LeBlanc scared twice in the first 10 minutes of the second haîf before Paciga finished the scoring on a penalty kick midway through the second frame. Robert Lacroix played a very strang gaine in the Whitby net, with Tyler Scero providing tight marking ai Etobicoke's tep striker. Whitby's midfield, consisting ai Jason Evelyn, Matthew McGrady and Paciga, played superb soccer. Etobicoke managed an entry on the scaresheet ýlong atter the gaine had been decided, with VWtby ending up with a 4-1 victory. In the team's second game ai the day, the Pineto Soccer Club from Kleinburg, was an untested opponent. Whitby wasted no time with David Wilson quickly scoring his first ai two in the game. Evelyn added twa more before the haîf was out. Dale Chung and Adam Gruchala provided solid efforts in the WhIitby backfield, whiîe Bartuis Barrera played with keen determnination in the Whià tby rnidfield. Wi-le Pineto added a goal early in the second half, the Wolverines added twa mare, including one from Kevin Taylor, to finish with a5-1lmargin. On Sunday, Whitby came up against Wexford with bath tearns in search ai a berth in the semni-final. Dion Warren had his best gaine of the 1993 campaign against a tenaciaus Wexfard side. Once again, Lacraix came up with a spectacular effort in the Wh-itby net ta, keep the opposition at bay. Andrew Allison, Scero and Michael Gardzinski dernonstrated their fine defensive skiîls thraughaut the match. The Wlverines were rewarded for their efforts when a determined Graham Macean found the back ai the WVexford net with six minutes ta go. A determined Wexford side kept attacking and scored the equalizer in the final minute ai the game, resulting in a 1-1 drawv. Based on goal differential, Whitby advanced to thr semi-final. The Wol'erines met their tour ament hasts, East York, in the semi-final on Sunday afternoan. LeBlanc opened the scoring in the eighth minute on a through-ball from Taylor. East York scoi'ed from a free kick awarded just outside the Whitby penalty area late in the first haîf. In a game that saw each team have a number ai scaring chances, Taylor's goal on a pass from Macean 15 minutes into the second half for a 2-1 lead assured Whitby ai a berth in the final. The skilled Whitby midfield ance again demonstrated that they are amongst the best around. The taurnament final, played Monday morning, pitted the Woîverines agai nst the perennially strang side from Glen Shields. Whitby was dealt its first setback just seconds into the game when team captain and centre forward Taylor taak a hard-hit bail in the face and left for a nearby hospital. Glen Shields moved the bal very effectively, capitalizing an a volley af a flighted hall from a corner kick 10 minutes inta the game. Lacroix was tested frequently and came up with another superb effort in the Whitby goal, keeping the Wolverines in the game. Shields added a second goal three minutes into the second haîf and later capitalized on a cross from the corner with a bal headed into the back af the Whitby net te round out the scaring for a 3-0 decision. Whitby started ta open up the Shields backfield in the latter part of the match but it proved too little, too late. Lacroix was selected as Whitby's most valuable player. The Whitby team started the 1993 outdoor season with a 2-1 victory over cross-division rivaIs Etobicoke. The Whitby team, spansored by Dundas-Centre Guardian Drugs and Follett's Trade Bindery, started its season in the flrst division ai the Central Soccer League on May 20. The under-12 level, featuring 16 teams in the first division, includes teams from Oshawa ta the east through ta Woodbnidge in the west. The Wlverines were aut ta avenge an exhibition loss at the hands of Etobicake just 12 days earlier. Whitoy was led by the midfield of Evelyn flanked by Paciga and McGrady. MacLean accounted for bath Whitby goals while Lacroix provided very steady goalkeeping in the Whitby net. Scero and Andrew Allison also provided the team with stellar defensive play in keeping the Etobeoke strkers at bay. The Wolverines hosted their next league game at Jeffery Park against division rivais Pickering on Thursday, May 27. .Crowder 1lst. in anada Ashleigh Crowder won gold and silver medals at the Cana- dian youth swimming champi on- shîps over the weekend in Toronto. The 14-year-old membr of the Whitby Iroquois Swim Club won the Cana1dian championship in the 100m backstroke and was second in the 200m backstroke. Erik Van Dijk of WVhitby rea- ced the finals in the 100m and 200mn breaststrokc and qualified for the senior nationals in Edmonton in «July.
