Nýot only did Woodley win an exciting photo fiïnish with Picker- ing's Dion Trowers, he also beat an OFSAA mark set 14 years agfo by Canadian Olympie gold medalist Mark McCcy. Woodley's time for the eveat was 14.13 seconds, and was one of a handful of outstanding, record-breaking performances. He was ahead of Trowers' 14.17 tume. In ail, Whitby students won eight medals. Woodley also won the triple jump competition, going 14.53 metres. Another Anderson student, Andrew Channer, won gold in the senior boys' long jurnp. He leaped 6.82 metres, ahead of Cawthra's brent Edwards who jumped 6.78 nietres. Channer also won silver in the triple jump. His best effort was 13.88 metres, behind Chris Howell of Pearson who had a distance of 14.35 metres. Whitby's midget lacrosse team won a tournament in Peter- borough recently. In the champiotiship game, R y n Huxter scored two goals as Witby defeated Peterborough 6- 1. Pat Jones, Gavin Prout, Mfart O'Brien and Zac Aitken each had a goal. Huxter had a total of seven oals in the tournament while eMcNutt had three goals and six assists. O'Brien had three goals and four assists, Steve Voituk two goals and five assists, Gavin Prout and Matt Cardwell each had four goals and two assists. Paul Sallie and Rob Fodor each had two goals and four assista in the well-balanced Whitby attack. Former Anderson student Andy Brereton, now attending college and competinp, in the U.S., had won the OFSAA senior long jump competition the past two yuars. Esi Benyarku of Father Leo J. Austin won the junior girls' 100m sprint. Her time was 12.310 seconds ahead of Melone Hoshing oï Agincourt who, had a time of 12.33 seconds. The senior boys' 110m hurdles also featured a photo finish -- but Jason Brumley of Henry Street Hig h] School took secon d, behind Egbert Felix of Agincourt. BËoth had a time of 14.59 seconds for the event. Sharron Ferdinand of Trafal- gar Castie School won a bronze medal in the junior girls' shot put, with adistance of 11.22 metres. Tie winner, Tina MacDonald of General Amherst, had a dis- tance of 12.5 1 metres. Alan Thrasher of Whitby, a student at Harwood in Ajax, was third in the 100m event for ambulatory boys. Dennis Thonmas of Anderson was seventh in the midget boys' 400m race. BANTAM LOffE IN FINAL Whitby's bantamn A lacrosse team, feli -5 to Peterborough in the final of the bantam division. Whitby had wins of 15-3 over Scarborough, 20-5 over Hamulton and 11-7 over St. Catharines to reach the final. The Whitby team was playing without cap tain and sniper Jason Ward, sidelined due to a previous înjury. Stephen Death led Whitby scorers in the tournament with 12 goals and 12 assists. Brent Lazary had eight goals and 12 assists while Arthur Whaley had il goals and seven assists. Ryan Harris had seven goals and five assista, Mike York two goals and five assists, A.J. Shan- non three goals and four assists, Wes Suddons a goal and five assists. 3Whitby players drafted Three Whitby teens were among those selected in the Ontario Hockey League draft over the weekend. Brian Scott Paul Brooks and Paul Dillon, ail aged 16, have al plye in the Whitby mlinor hokysystem. Scott, who playé-d for Oshawa Legionaires of' the Metro Junior Hockey League last season, was drafted in t he second round by the Kingston Fronton acs. Playing centre, he had 39 oints in 44 games for .eg onaires. Dilon, who played centre for the Whitby miclget team last season, was picked in the lOth round by Belleville Bulîs. Brooks, who also played for Legionaires last season, was drafted in the l2th round by Windsor Suitf ires. -» 11 for Legionaires.
