The 22nd tournament, spon- sored by the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise, will include 16 of the top teams in Ontario, includingR defending champion Leaside TS Tigers. Games will he played at Iro- quois Park and Peel Park in Witby and at Kinsmen Stadium and t h new Ritson Fields in Oshawa. The tournament begins with, Ontario defeated Saskat- chewan te win the Canadian women's junior field lacrosse championship held in Oshawa asat Sunday. But Ontario had te, settie for second place in the senior women's championship as Brit- ish Columbhia won for the 1lth straight year. .Oshawa's Civic Stadium was the site for this year's lacrosse championships. In the junior division, Ontario defeated Saskatchewan 8-4 for its second straight national titie. Four Whitbyr women were members of this year's Ontario team. They were Jennifer Johnson, Jenn Cotton, Margot Jacobs and Lesley Grenon. Peewee -Bs win it alon home turf Over the Canada Day weekend, the WiMtby peewee B lacrosse team won the annual Whitby Miner ILacrosse Tournament in convincing fashion. The teain, anxious te atone for their defeat in Guelph, came eut strong firom the start, defeating Beaches 11-3 on Friday evening and then following up on Saturday with a 9-2 wn over Peterborough. The two wins gave Whitby a bye in the quarter-finals. I the semi-finals, Whitby was again pitted against Beaches which proved te be Whitby's closest gaine of the tburnamnent. Streng defense and good goaltending by Jh Chesebroeh including a stop on a pnalty shot by Beaches with only a minute and aluaif left te, go, put Whitby in the finals with a 6-3 win. The finals brought WVhitby and Peterborough together again. However, it was ne contest as the Whitby squad played a streng, disciplined effort enroute to a well-deserved 13-3 win. - Leading Whitby's effence in the tournament was Stephen Hoar with 15 points, fllowed by Bobby McBride with 12 and Sean MacRiury with 11. Playing through the pain and providing valuable relief were David Crabbe, Scott McWilliazns and Derek Orr. The team, was missing Adama Teather whose injuries prevented himn freinplaying.
