The WVhitby squad, sponsored by the Oshawa Blue Knights field lacrosse association, started off slowly, roping a 52 decision te Acten onmTursday evening. The VWhitby squad continued te keop their playoff hopes alive. Whitby thon had te net only win their remaning gaine against Windsor, but they had te win by at least six goals te, gain a berth in the finals based on goal differential. Paced by a superlative five-point effort frocm Bobby McBride, Whitby trouncod Windsor 7-1 in one of the best Whitby efforts this season. McBride's effort seemed te pick up the entiro Whitby sud which had net played well ntil this gaine. The finals brought Whitby up againzt their longtime rivais from Syracse. In two previous meetings, Syracuse emerged victoious with close wins and this contest was simidlar. A]though Whitby put forth a reasonabie effort, it was net one of their botter outingsj, and in the end, Syracuse managed a 9-5 win. "Vie had our chances te win, but as in the first two gaInes we just didn't put the bail in the net" said assistant coach Murray Down of Broolclin. "Vie were in it at 6-4 but despite neyerai good scorng opportunities, we just kept nussing the net. You can't win if you don't p ut the bail in the net when you h ave the chance. Additional Whitby point-getters were Stephen Hoar with four points, Bobby Marshall three points, Sean MacRury, Andrew Smale, and Max Wilkins two points each, and Lee Silverthorn, Vinmie Crawford, Matt McMullon, Jeremy Fisher, Farren Whittaker, and Matt McKay one point. A strong goaltending offert was put forth by the two Whitby notminders, John Chesebrough and Blar Dinsdale. Whitby's noxt outing will ho the annual Sarnia tournainent July 24-25.
