Hawksby, 18, of the Cedar- hurst Golf & Country Club in Beaverton, and Scott V il of the Oshawa Golf Club each shot a three-over-par 75 to tie for first in the tour's fifth event at Cherry Downs golf course. (Extra-hole playoffs are not held in tour events). Hawksby won the tour's second event July 12 at Seaton Golf & Country Club when he shot a one-under 71. The first-place finish at Cherry Downs moved Hawksby to fourth place overaîl on the tour with 267 points. David Kovacs of Cherry Downs maintains a one-point Iead on the tour with 281 points. Kovacs, 17, won the tour's fourth event with a par 72 at Whitevale on July 27. Todd Burreli of Whitevale Golf Club is second on the tour with 280 points and Brad Dove of Cherry Downs is third with 278 points. The tour includes two of Ontario's best young golfers, Eddie Maunder and Derek Gil- lespie, MWaunder, 15, of Cherry Downs, who won the tour's first event July 6 at Thunderbird golf course in Ashbumn with a two- under 70, recently won the Ontariojuvenile championship. Derek Gillespie, 15, of Oshawa Golf Club, who won the tour's third event July 14 with a par 72 at Fawn Brook golf course in Pickering, won the Ontario junior championship. Due te a busy schedule, Gilles- pie has competed in only three of the local tour's five eveats while Maunder has been in only two events. Two events remain in this, the first junior tour in the area. The golfers compete at Oshawa Golf Club on Aug. 16 and at Lak- eridge in north Whitby on Aug. 23. "It's been going very well," says John Uprichard who, along with Mark Rwand, came up with the idea for a junior tour in this area. On May 10, 28 teainsaplit into two divisions and started play in the Whitby Minor Baseballi Association t-bail league for boys and girls aged 6 and 7. After some 218 league gaines and 39 playoff gaines, the winners of the two divisions, Dairy Queen from the. east division and Marven Enterprises Inc. from the west division, faced each other in the championship gaine. After a slow start due to rain delays, both teanis settled down to a defensive struggle featuring excellent pîsys. They were tied after the firet inning. In the last inning Dairy Queen moved'ahead of Marven ta take the championship by a score of 14-11. The t-bail championship trophy was presented ta coaches Mike Peever and Mike Irwin.
