The winning goal camne from a corner kick by Mark Cassidy when Akinbiyi converted a shot fr-oinEngelage. The fullback core of Scott Adarnson, Bilan Rainey, Bryant Harte, Stefan Nicota and Matt Brady played a strong game ini front of goaltender Cedar who gave a great peformnance in goal to highlight Whitby's victory. Against their cross-town rivaIs, Oshawa Turul, Raiders faced a new tactic as the Oshawa goalie was playing like an llth attacker. For the first 20 minutes, Oshawa had monientuin and bottled up Whitby in their own end. However, Whitby reversed strategies and found a kink in the Oshawa tactic to strike for three quick goals in the latter 20 minutes of the first haîf. Engelage struck first with a long shot over the goalie's head, then countered again as he deked the goalie out of position and sank the ball into the empty net. Cassidy recorded Whitby's third goal, showing a determiàned effort as he took a shot at the Oshawa goal and quickly followed up with the rebound to score. At half-tiine, Whitby led 3-0. Cassidy scored again in the second haîf as Raiders rode to a 4-1 victory. Whitby's season record now stands at seven wins, four losses and a tie. After a slow start, Raiders have lost only one of their last eight league gainés. They have also recorded three toumnament championships -- the Greece Cobra Tournament in Rochester, N.Y., the Peterborough Challenge Tournament and the Oshawa McLaughlin Inter- national Tournament.
