As she is stili on leave, we have a substitute, Mrs. A. McKinnell, who is very eutgoing. She took part in one of the staffs shows (during ber first week et the scbool) on aetivity day. On ectivity day et Trafalgar, ail girls unite as one, together with their teachers in differont houses -- Carter, Maxwell, Farewell and Hare -- te show spirit threugh .5ports and many other ectivities. New girls get a chance te becorne clsr te the achool. This year the day was September 13. It was fun and, tbis bing my second year bore, I must say this was the bost, especially the relier skating et Wheelies. The school bad arranged a trip for the girls te Canada's Wenderland on Sept. 12 which preved te be a tremendeus outing. Coming Up 15 the camping week wbere many of the students and staff are going camping near Harrowsmith and I bot this will bo wonderful, tee. First of ail, rd like te congratulate Vincent Dessureault, who won $100 in the student counicil contest during the <ance two weeks ego. Dessureault's naine was picked frein the names of the students having brought guesta te the dance. My sources tell me that the money was spent wisely. Last week our principal, M. Berry, teld the students that orders were being teken for our achool jackets. The jackets are maroon, with white leather aleeves, and a white leather colar. They are quite nice, and alse quite warm. Student council members were seen tbis week selling Garnier sweat shirts and track suits, as well as Carnier nylon jackets. The sale was well-timed, because the sweat shirts and jackets helped te protect us frein the cold weather that surrounds Us. On Friday, Oct. 1 (happy October), some students and teachers met up for a hockey gaine. The gaine was for fun, ith the teachers trying te prove that yuare nover tee old ... just My source on the teechers team tells me that both teains id really well. No score wes kept, but my source said that it was pretty much a tie. Congratulations te botb teains. Well, enother holiday is approaching, as we meve inte the scnd month of acheol (already?). Thanksgiving is just areund the corner, and after that, it'll be Halloween. For now, students continue their daily activities, and the pianota continue te revolve arond the sun. The Sept. 23 dance was a buge succesa. Hundreds of students pecked inte the cafetorium and danoed the night away. A special thanka te, student council and the staff facilitetors, Mme. Morel- Foster, Miss Fletcher, Mr. Nicholas and Mme. Labrosse, for making this the best Wildcet dance ever. We look forward te, the Oct. 28 dance. Austin's annuel ewards assembly was beld Sept. 24. Awards were given te students whose ecademic averages lest year at Austin were 80 per cent or higher. In addition, students who made outstanding contributions within the Austin community received service awards. Awards were aise given te top math students (et eacb grade level), history students end te the English student, Eric Dittinar, who won tbe OECTA essay writing contest et tbe provincial level. Finally, the prestigieus Catholic Student of the Year Award was given te Elisa Alvarez. Congratulations te al winners (including yours truly) on their outstanding echievements. On Sept. 22, Austin7s draina students travelled te Stratferd te, sSe 'A Midsunimer Night's Dreain' and 'The Importance e Being Earnest.' Students enjoyed teuring the scenic area and througbly enjoyed both plays. In sports news, the senior boys! soccer teain defeated St. Mary's Sept. 24 by a score of 6-1. Thon, improving the Wildcat records, the teain crushed Brock 5-0 Sept. 28. Congrats te al players on their aweseme playing -- keep up the good work. Austin's three ladies! basketball teems trevelled te Eastdale Sept. 28. The junior teain proved thet tbey are the teain of the season, smesbing Eestdale 70-31. Both the rnidget anid senior teamns lest close gaines but showed excellent sportsmansbip and playing ability. Good luck on your upcoming gaines. The OAC religion retreet takes place Oct. 14 and 15. Students will be travelling te Queen of the Aposties Retreat Centre in Mississauga. The retreat is only a week away, se get those permnission formes in today. Last week student council introduced this yeer's money.raising campaign during one of our famous assemblies. This year Henry Hawks are raising money for of tbe Spec-fal Olympics. Armed witb ticket boollet in band, students wilI give donors a chance te win 'A Day with tbe Leafs,' two Leef gift certificates or a great painting as tep prizes.
