The Pickering Philharmonic, with 50 musicians fromn Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, other cemmunities of Durhani Region and Toronto, is ready te, mako somne music. The 1993-94 premier season of the philharmonlc will be a four-concert series, starting in November. 'Famous Trumpeters,' wlth guost artist Johnny Cowell on trumpet, will be on Saturday, Nov. 6. In this inaugural performance, the philharmnonic combines music and humour. The orchestra performns works by Mozart and Rossini. Cowell will present bis highly entertaining and ainusing tribute te f1arnous trumpet players. 'Christmnas Festival,' with the Jean McDenald Singers of Pickering, wiil bo on Saturday, Dec. 18. In addition te Vivaldi's Gloria, the choir and orchestra will present a number of selections, including a carol sing-along. Spimiers show on weekend The Scugog Shores Spinners and Weavers Guild will hold the fourth annual show and sale on Saturday, Oct. 16, 10 a.ni. to 4 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 17, noon to 4 p.m., at the Masonic Hall in Port Perry. Spinning and weaving demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend. Admidssion is free.
