Hometown Christmas begins Friday A tree-lighting ceremony on Friday niight will kick off events held by Downtown Business In- provement Area for the Christ- mas season. A stecking draw, ucandlelight- shopping, button campaign, Santa's breakfast and colouring conteet are among the events scheduled for the downtown mer- chants' Hometown Christmas. The annual tree-lighting cere- mony will be-hleld at the Whitby Public Library at 7:30 p.m. While Santa and his elves give eut candy canes, those attending the ceremeny are asked te brin g non- perishable food items for a Christmas food drive. Following the ceremeny, four Whitby Transit buses will take residents on a tour of decoratod homes.
