The past couple of weeks have been busy ones here at Saint-Cbarles-Garnier. On Tuesday, April 19, a very important event happened in our cafetoum. Twenty-six people became new Canadian citizens. The cafetoriuin was transformned into a courtroom wbere three judges helped these people take the o« hto become part of tbe greatest hation of the world. As the new citizens took the oath, tbe audience was invited to reaffirm their Canadian citizenship, wliich everyone did proudly. A nuinher of students from botb Garnier and Austi n attended the ceremony, and a couple of students from both schools spoke about what it ineant to them te be Canadian. The Garnier students spoke in French and the Austin students spoke in English. W. were also honoured te welcome Mfinister of Immi*gration Sergio Marchi, MayorofWib Tom Edwards, Ontario riding ME Dan McTéague as well as several menibero of the school board wbo aIl watched the ceremony. The event was very exciting and w. were honoured te hold such a ceremony in our schools. Wednesday, April 27 was another exciting day for Garnier students. Jeunesse du Monde organized a fashion show te rais. money for local non-profit organizations. Students as well as teachers modeled outfit after outfit fromn such stores as Dalmys, Roots, Northern Reflections, Northern Traditions, Randy River and Leigh Morgan as well as a few others. The shutout was earned by Leaf Worsley. Outstanding plays by Dianna Niedzweidicki, Haley Cooke, Nat Goning, Heather Bird and Kristen Millen led the tearn te victery. Anderson's junior boys' rugby teain defeated cross-town rivaIs Henry Street 24-5 on'Thursday to keep their unbeat.n streak alive. Trevor Burwash rocketed inte the end zone twice while Matt Bongard and Chris Curry each scored ties te put Raiders far abead of Hawks. O)n Tuesday, the senior boys' rugby teain won their second leage gaine of the season. Anderson defeated Pine Ridge by a score of 7.5. The girls defeated ,Ajax 6-4 and Central 7-5. Well done, (gis. Anderson experienced Muscle Mania 3 on Thursday. Congratulations te Cort Fowler who b.ld on te, his title as Anderson's heavyweight and overall muscle mania champion. Chnis Long won the middleweight division and Oni Osbourne was the lightweight champion. Congratulations te ail participants for their outstanding efforts. Judges were Stephanie Dufiy, Mr. Eaton, Mr. Hussey, Mn. Stefopolus and Miss Shin. Anderson's Student Athletie Association is busy with preparations for this year's carnival. Special thanks te members of the Senior Chaniber choir who performed in Oshawa and Witby last week. On Thursday, a large group gave a well-recieved concert for the. Comnmunity Car. Volunteers of Whlitby. On Wednesday, several students opened a business conférence in Oshawa with their rendition of O Canada. Thanks te ail vocalists for their bard work. Austin Catholic Secondary School will soon spend a week in Bermuda where tbey'll share their musical talents with the people there. Henry's 'Fabulous Flautists' -- Mary Beth Garofalo, Kathryn Wigglesworth, Christine Sturgess and Natalie Morgan -- received firstprize under the coaching of Mr. Oole at the Kiwamis Music Festival. Congratulations te al who participated. According te, the judge, the players were indeed "fabulous flautists." The histery trip te, Washington, D.C. was also a great success. Students enjoyed the sightseeing, the histery and the beautiful weather. Henry>s rugby teaxns don't stop for anyone. The midget boys won another gaine. The senior boys' rugby teain has corne together te perform well on the field. Excellent support plays are made by ail players, and the team played well te win games against Curtis and Anderson. Lacrosse (Canada's new second national sport) is also going strong at Henry. Girls' lacrosse teanis are playing today, results will follow. The archery teain is at LOSSA today at Uxbridge, and will continue on te DYSSA next week. Good luck te al The Cycling and Hiking Club will b. leaving for New Hlampshire next Wednesday for six days of outdoor living. Mr. German and Mrs. Leigh will b. leading the pack. Dr. Philip Smith and Dr. Roger Karani of the Durham socîety will hold a free seminar on 'How to relieve your low back pain,' at the Whitby Public Libr- ary on Tuesday, M ay 10, 7:30 p.m. A seminar will also b. held May 17 at the Oshawa Public Library.
