New format for baby show Théeneçtrants will b. as cut. as ever, but the. format bas been changed for the June 4 baby show at the Brooklin, SpringFair. Anthose changes mean more prizes, more excitement and fewer disappoînted parents, says Amber Frost, chair of the baby show ogaizing commttee. Biggest eyes, best smile and curliest hair are just some Of the 7 catepries in which babies will be judged. Registration begins Saturday afternoon, May 28 at Brook- lin linited Church. Some of those 17 catégories will be divided into girls' and boy' divisions, and in some catégories (most h ir, curliest hair, for example) there will be furthedvion based on age. Frost says the new format will make the compétition "'more objective" and "better for the judges, better for the kida." teou m, onys and'girls were in age catégories of one tofu onhfurY ihtmnheight te 12 months, 12 te 16 months and 16 te 24 months. Babies were judgzed on vitality, neatness and spontaneity. But Frost says that structure, in which the tep three in each category were awarded, meant many parents of non-wnners left disappointed. "There were too many sad faces," says Frost. Wfth tthe previous format, «There's too much heartbreak, they can't ail win.» This year ail babies entered will receive a prize and a free photograph and parents get a pass to the fair on the day of the show. A baby may be entered in no more than three categories, and there is a limit of 10 babies per category. There will no longer bea Little Mr. Brooklin Fair and Little Ms. Brooklin Fair, the overail winners among boys and girls in previous shows. Last year Mitchell Fleming was Little Mr. Brooklin Fair and Sarah MacDonald was Little Ms. Brooklin Fair. Both will be on a float in the fair parade on Saturday morning, June 4. Instead, at this year's competition there will be the cutest prince and princess, judged in a separate category. Also this year, prize money will only be given to the first-place baby in each category. Registration on Saturday, May 28 at the church may see aIl categories filled, says Prost. of«It's just getting bigger and bigger every year,» she says ofthe show.
