Team Canada makes its final stop of the tour at Durham as they continue te prepare for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at the athletic complex. Admission is $8. The national team recently placed second at the Canada Cup '94, losing only to China. Canada is currently ranked #14 in the world while Ukraine is ranl<ed #9 in the World. Basebali finals in Whitby The first-ever Canadian inter- collegiate basebali champion- ships will be held. at Iroquois Park in, Whitbv Oct. 15 and 16. Durham College, McGill University, University of Guelph and McMaster University will compete in the championships. McGill and Durham are cur- rently locked in a battie for flrst p lace in the league with only a few games remaining. Chris Sereda of Whitby plays second base for Durham and is the team leader in stelen bases. The opening game waas aanst lege competitors, Port erry, with Whitby coming out on top by a 4-2 score. The team then faced Whidtby's belle A teain in the next two games and camne away with victories by scores of 2-1 and 6-4. Whitby then defeated Oshawa's tween AA teain 5-4. Team goal-scoring was led by Melanie Davis with five, Tania Chappeil three, Ellen Johnson, Stephanie Marlowe, Ai nsley Hunt and Jessica Williams with a pair each and a single marker going to Jennifer Penney. Assists went te Marlow, Johnson and Davis with four each, Angela Dunn. and Lisa Vanderlip with three each, single helpers going to Patti Brooks, Hunt, Chappel and Penney. Adcitional team, members are Brea Blight, Lindsay Milard and goaltender Heather Hurat who came up with big saves te ensure the wins. The team is coached by Wayne Johnson, with assistant Bill Williams and tramner Kerstin Johnson. Teachers wiIl be professional coaches and some of Canadas top ranking artistic skaters. The eight.badge program is run in five-week sessions. The cost is $25 per session. Those skaters elîgible te join the junior club will be taught spins, jumps, dances and figures by professional coaches and will have the opportunity te enter beginner competitions. Ow OBITUARY--*- for mixed league GLORIA RINTS Gloria Jeannette Rints of Whi, a prominent member of th itby Minor Hockey Asso- ciation, died at Oshawa General Hospital on Sept. 23, 1994. She was 55. She was born in Regina, Sask. on Feb. 14, 1939, daughter of Norman Joseph and Edith (Har- ney) Anderson. She married Del- mer Rints on Sept. 6, 1958 at St. Mark's United Church in Whitby. She was president of the United Church Women's Auxili- ary,, a Girl Guide leader, and président of the minor hockey ladies' auxiliary. She was a director of the inter- national silver stick toumnament held annually in Whitby. She is survived by her hus- band, children Sandy, Diane and Bob, sons-in-law Peter Windfield and Real Andrews, daughter-in- law Jackie Rints, grandchildren 7 1er, April, Samantha, Reilly, C ancy, Jensen, Jordan and Saniantha, brother Jerry and sis- tors Liee and Cindy. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Rick. The funeral was held at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel on Sept. 25, 1994, Rev. Brian Gee codci= Interment at Grove- sieCmtry.
