Two more wins for novice B team Whitby's novice B ringette team, sponsored by Vicdom Sand and Gravel, won both of their league games in the past week. Whitby camne out ahead 4-1 thanks te the play of goalie Heidi Schlitt and the defence of Jillian Shannon, Karyn Peacocke and Lyndsey Smith. The first two goals were scored by Nicole Freeman and Jennifer Leighton. Both goals were score of 23-0 at Oakwýood arena lest Wednesday evening. Tween B team squeaks by Ajax The Whitby tween B ringette teamr, spensored by Peacock Sports, won another close one at home this past Saturday, as they edged a very competitive Ajez squad 5-4. The gaine saw both teains moving the ring constantly up and down.the ice and with many excellent scoring chances at each end. The score was tied at a goal eech efter the first period and the lead continued to change hands during the final period. With just under two minutes te play, Ajax scored te once again fie the score for the fourth time. with the go-ahead goal just 14 seconds later and managed te, hold off the Ajax charge. Leading the Whitby scorers with four goals was Corrine Richter, while iffany Jones added the other goal and contributed three assists. Other team assiste went te Andrea Perry with a pair, whiàle Danielle Glover had a single helper. Keri-Lynn Smith came up with a number of game-saving saves in the Whiàtby net during the closing miinutes of the game te preserve the team victory. LAura Cainpbell, Paetra Kaufman and Jessica Templeman rounded out the scoring with singletons. Whitby's season record now stands at three wins and one loss. 14 goals. Belles sweep MississCaga Whiitby's belle A ringette team, sponsored by Provincial Signs, won both ends of a home-and-home series this past weekend. In the first game, Mississauga juxnped te quick lead, scoring in the first minute of play. Whitby took advantage of Mississauga penalties a few minutes later to tie the score on a liard screen shot from Erin Carroll. Mississauga jumped back inte, the lead late in the first haîf but~ Kara Easton came in from lier defensive position 30 seconds later te fie the score again. Early in the second haîf, Natasha Carter scored on a superb backhand on a set-up by Julie Rowland. A few minutes later, Rolland scored on a play set up by Carter. The Whitby defence of Easton, Anne Henderson, Catie Challoner and Megan Neilly, backstopped by Samantha Sheppard in net, did an excellent job of controlling the strong Mississauga attack for the final 10 minute of the game. Mississauga scored with two minutes remaining te narrow the score to 4-3 but did not get any more scoring for the rest of the gaine. The second game, in Mississsauga, was aiso a close-checking struggle. Mississauga again opened the scoring early in the first haîf. Whitby got the tying goal on a forehand shot by Jen Cotton, assisted by Carter and goalie Sheppard. Whitby then skated to a 5-1 lead with the forward lines firing on aIl cylinders. Kim Vanderlip scored twice, assisted by Rowland and Neilly on both goals. Carrol and Carter assisted on each other's goals with Cotton also assisting on both. Sheppard-played her best game of the year in net. Bungay scores 5 The Whitby tween C ringette tearn, sponsored by Hanet Plastics, defeated Ajax 11-2. Andrea Bungay led the way for Whitby with five goals and two assists. Single goals went te Camre Tully, Teresa Bugden, Lesley Couperthwaite, Becky Duncan and Lesley Mayberry. Assiste were added by Nicki Baldasti (two), Sarah Powers and Stephanie Capranos. Christine Parrot was in goal. Church. Erin Flaherty recorded her second shuteut of the season for Whitby. In their second game of the week, Hamer scored late in the first period te break a 2-2 tie with Pickering, and Whitby skated on te, a 9-2 victery. McWilliams Hamer and Jeifs each tallied twice for Vicdom. Kotarba, Crabb and Henry were the other Whitby goal-scorers with Henry aIso contributing three assists. Whitby now has record of four wins and no losses in league play. Peti'tes win big Whitby Executive Copier petite A ringette team remained undefeated in league play with a 10-3 victory over Barrie lest Saturday. Using their speed and fine team play, Whitby scored- early and often te build a 7.1 first period lead. Play continued strong throughout the second period with Whitby adding three more goals and Barrie counting two. Scoring for VWitby were Megan Yaraskavitch, Tara Henry, Nicole Clark and Mlichelle Leni, each scrng twèice. Singles went to Natalie Babony and Kisty Kotarba. Clark had three. assists.
