Decrease in welfare cases For the seventh consecutive month, the number of Durham Region general welfare assistance cases bas decined. In October, 10,4-46 cases, represening 17,754 persons, received *welfare. This was 343 fewer cases than in September 1994, a drop of 3.2 per cent. There were 1,864 fewer cases receiving welfare in October 1994 than ýin March 1994, a drop of 15.1 per cent. .The, lasti, tinie -thé gerieral- welfare caseload was at this level was November 1991. --The significant downward trend ..i.f numbers of persons receiving welfare is a positive indicator of the improving economy says the Region.
